Yelp's Get Quote Feature Is Live in ChatGPT. What Contractors Need to Do.
Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman confirmed this week that the "Request a Quote" feature has begun rolling out inside ChatGPT. Independent practitioner testing found a live "Get Quote" button appearing for eligible service businesses within ChatGPT responses -- the first confirmed observations outside Yelp's own communications.
This is not a new product announcement. It's the activation of a lead-gen layer that's been architecturally in place since July 23, 2026, when Yelp signed a data licensing agreement with OpenAI. That deal passed 330 million cumulative user reviews and 8 million business listings directly into ChatGPT's response layer. The "Request a Quote" feature was always the stated next step. It's now arriving.
For home services contractors -- plumbers, HVAC technicians, electricians, roofers -- this changes what it means to have a complete Yelp profile.
What the flow looks like
A ChatGPT user describes a home problem. ChatGPT surfaces relevant local businesses using Yelp data. Eligible businesses display a "Get Quote" option. The user answers a few questions about the scope of the job. Yelp creates the request and routes it through its existing quote infrastructure to the contractor.
The contractor receives the lead inquiry through Yelp's standard messaging system. Nothing in this flow requires the user to leave ChatGPT. Nothing requires the contractor to use a new platform -- the lead arrives the same way a direct Yelp quote request does today.
Our research tracking the rollout (Scout session 118, 2026-08-25) confirms the feature is in early rollout, with availability varying by listing, category, and region. It is not yet a full GA launch -- Yelp has not published a dedicated blog post announcing the contractor-specific feature. But the CEO's confirmation and first practitioner observations (ignitelocal.com, August 2026) make this the moment to act.
Why Yelp's position in ChatGPT is structural, not coincidental
Before July 23, 2026, Yelp appeared in ChatGPT's training data and showed up in organic citation analysis. It was a soft signal. After the partnership, Yelp is a direct API data source -- the same architectural relationship that Foursquare has held since December 2024.
Our July 2026 research documentation (Scout session 95, `methodology-recs/2026-08-02-yelp-chatgpt-thumbtack-claude-partnerships.md`) established the revised ChatGPT data priority for home services:
- **Priority 1 (direct data feed integrations):** Foursquare, Yelp, Thumbtack - **Priority 2 (organic training-data presence):** BBB, Angi
Foursquare provides approximately 60-70% of ChatGPT's local business POI data -- the baseline layer of business names, addresses, and service categories. Yelp provides the reputation layer: reviews, ratings, photos, and listing details fed directly via API. Thumbtack, which integrated into ChatGPT via OpenAI's Apps SDK in October 2025, provides the home services marketplace layer.
These three feeds don't compete. They stack. A business absent from Foursquare is structurally invisible to ChatGPT local queries regardless of Yelp completeness. A business absent from Yelp misses the reputation layer -- and now, the lead-gen layer. A business absent from Thumbtack misses the home services marketplace routing.
The "Request a Quote" rollout makes Yelp's lead-gen function explicit. It has always been implicit: a user who saw a Yelp listing in a ChatGPT response had to navigate away to contact the contractor. That friction is disappearing.
What your Yelp profile needs to be eligible
The "Request a Quote" feature is a Yelp product that the ChatGPT integration surfaces. Eligibility follows Yelp's standard criteria -- not a special ChatGPT-specific configuration.
That means: - A claimed and verified Yelp listing (unclaimed profiles are not surfaced through the API reliably) - Request a Quote enabled in your Yelp business settings - Service categories filled in accurately (the routing system matches user job descriptions to contractor specialties -- incomplete categories mean missed matches) - Messaging enabled to receive inbound requests
Review presence matters here. Our research tracking the SOCi 2026 Local Visibility Index (Scout session 80, July 2026) found that ChatGPT local recommendations average 4.30 stars -- and locations below 4.0 stars are effectively screened out before any other signal runs. Enabling Request a Quote does nothing for a business with 3.8 stars and twelve reviews. The platform-level filtering happens before the lead is routed.
The Yelp Q2 2026 earnings confirm the financial scale of this integration. Yelp's Other Revenue segment nearly doubled year-over-year -- directly attributed by Yelp executives to ChatGPT and AI partner data licensing revenue. That near-doubling was already happening before the July 23 public announcement, which means the data relationship predates the announcement by a meaningful margin. This is not a pilot. Yelp's ChatGPT integration is generating revenue at scale, which means OpenAI is actively surfacing Yelp data in high volume.
The full platform picture for contractors
The Yelp "Request a Quote" rollout is one piece of an architecture that has been assembling throughout 2026. As of August 25, 2026:
**ChatGPT:** Foursquare (location data pipeline), Thumbtack (home services marketplace API since October 2025), Yelp (330M reviews + 8M listings, now with lead-gen layer beginning rollout)
**Claude:** Thumbtack (direct API integration, Free/Pro/Max tiers, April 2026)
**Gemini:** Angi and Thumbtack (Connected Apps since August 12, 2026 -- action-layer routing)
**Perplexity:** No confirmed data partnerships, but Yelp accounts for 62.1% of its directory citation share organically
Our session 110 methodology update (August 17, 2026) concluded that Thumbtack profile completeness is the single highest-leverage cross-platform action for home services businesses right now. Thumbtack is the only platform confirmed across all four major AI interfaces for the home services category.
The Yelp "Request a Quote" rollout adds a layer on top of that. Thumbtack gets you into the routing flow on ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. A complete Yelp profile with Request a Quote enabled gets you into ChatGPT's lead-gen surface specifically -- the one backed by 330 million reviews and an active data partnership generating revenue at scale.
What to check right now
The early rollout window is the period when businesses that move first establish citation positions before patterns harden. A business that has Yelp properly configured -- claimed, reviewed, Request a Quote enabled, service categories complete -- is best positioned for the rollout to reach them. A business that hasn't done this work will need to do it before it can receive leads through this channel.
If you want to see where your business currently stands across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude -- including whether your Foursquare, Yelp, and Thumbtack profiles are visible in each platform's response layer -- Signal Check at sourcepull.ca shows your current citation picture across all four. The Yelp and Foursquare gaps show up in the ChatGPT section; the Thumbtack gaps appear across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. The businesses that fix these before the rollout completes will be positioned as default recommendations in their markets when the lead-gen layer reaches full availability.
