Thumbtack and Angi Are Now Gemini Connected Apps

On August 12, 2026, Google added Angi and Thumbtack to Gemini's Connected Apps ecosystem -- alongside Zocdoc, OpenTable UK, GetYourGuide, and roughly a dozen other platforms. For most home service businesses, that announcement went unnoticed. It shouldn't have.

Our August 17 methodology update (`methodology-recs/2026-08-02-yelp-chatgpt-thumbtack-claude-partnerships.md`, Scout session 110) documented what this development means in context: for the first time, a home services business absent from Thumbtack is now structurally invisible on all four major AI platforms simultaneously -- not just ChatGPT and Claude, but Gemini too. And a business absent from Angi is missing from the in-chat routing layer of two of those platforms.

Connected Apps are not the same as data partnerships

Most of the AI visibility story for home services has been driven by data partnerships: Foursquare feeds ChatGPT local results via POI database (December 2024), Thumbtack's marketplace integrated directly with ChatGPT (October 2025) and then Claude (April 2026), and Yelp licensed 330 million reviews to OpenAI (July 2026). Those partnerships work passively. A user asking "best HVAC company near me" on ChatGPT receives results assembled from those structured databases -- no special user action required beyond asking.

Gemini's Connected App model works differently. When a user describes a home project inside Gemini, Angi's AI Helper translates that description into a service request and routes the user to Angi contractors from within the chat window. Thumbtack operates through the same architecture. This is an action layer, not a citation layer. The business isn't being recommended via a link -- it's being matched and routed.

The distinction matters for fix priority. A missing Foursquare listing means ChatGPT doesn't include your business in its passive response pool. A missing Thumbtack or Angi profile on Gemini means you don't receive project routing at all when Gemini detects a home-project query and activates the Connected App layer -- even if your GBP is complete, your schema is correct, and your Yelp presence is strong.

Thumbtack's complete AI platform timeline

Our session 110 investigation (August 17, 2026) documented Thumbtack's full cross-platform integration sequence for the first time:

- January 2025: Alexa+ (Amazon) - October 2025: ChatGPT (OpenAI) - April 2026: Claude (Anthropic) - August 2026: Gemini (Google)

This makes Thumbtack the only home services platform with confirmed direct integration across all four major AI platforms -- not as an organic citation source, but as a structured feed or Connected App that actively routes users to listed service providers. A complete Thumbtack profile is now a structural signal on every primary AI surface your homeowner customers use.

The profile requirements for reliable Thumbtack surfacing were established in our sessions 95 and 96 research (August 2, 2026): all service categories claimed, service area defined, pricing range listed, and a minimum of 5 reviews. Those requirements don't change for Gemini. A profile that qualifies for the ChatGPT and Claude integration qualifies for the Gemini Connected App layer.

What Angi's Gemini integration adds

Angi's AI platform timeline is shorter but moving fast:

- March 2026: ChatGPT Apps sidebar (requires explicit user invocation) - August 2026: Gemini Connected App (action layer, triggered by home-project queries in chat)

The ChatGPT and Gemini integrations are architecturally different. The ChatGPT version is a sidebar app -- it only activates when a user deliberately opens the Angi app from the ChatGPT interface. The Gemini version fires when Gemini detects a home-project description in standard chat, making it closer in behavior to Thumbtack's ChatGPT integration (passive detection) than to Angi's ChatGPT integration (active invocation).

The practical implication: an Angi profile is now relevant for home project routing on both ChatGPT (via sidebar app) and Gemini (via Connected App). A business with a complete, accurate Angi profile -- service categories, service area, reviews -- is positioned for in-chat routing across two distinct platforms. A business without an Angi listing is bypassed in both.

Angi is also the #2 organic citation source for home services in ChatGPT training data, based on the Foundation/AirOps Q4 2025 dataset of 28.5 million AI responses. The same profile investment benefits the Connected App layer and the organic citation pool.

What this is not: Information Agents

A separate Google AI surface -- Information Agents (also marketed as Gemini Spark) -- launched for Google AI Ultra subscribers on June 12, 2026, and expanded to AI Pro subscribers in the US on July 25, 2026. These are persistent background monitors that compile topic digests and push notifications.

Our methodology assessment from Scout sessions 93 through 99 (July 31 -- August 6, 2026, `methodology-recs/2026-07-31-google-information-agents-audit-scope.md`) concluded that Information Agents should not be added to audit scope yet. The reasons: no citation data exists for home services queries through this surface, information agents are designed for ongoing-interest topics rather than transient service-need queries, the mechanism isn't testable from outside the subscriber experience, and standard analytics tools cannot confirm or measure Information Agent exposure even when it occurs -- the read and synthesis phases generate no GA4 sessions at all.

Information Agents and Gemini Connected Apps are different products with different citation mechanics. The Connected Apps update changes fix plan priorities now. Information Agents remain on the watch list.

The updated Gemini fix sequence

Based on our August 17 session 110 update, the Gemini home services fix plan now has two tiers:

**Priority 1 -- Gemini Connected App layer.**

Complete your Thumbtack profile at thumbtack.com/pro. Include all service categories, service area, pricing range, and a minimum of 5 reviews. Thumbtack now gates your visibility in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Alexa+ simultaneously -- no other single action closes gaps on all four platforms at once.

Complete your Angi profile at angi.com/pro. The August 2026 Gemini integration routes homeowners describing home projects directly to Angi contractors in-chat. An accurate, complete profile with defined service categories and service area is required to receive that routing.

**Priority 2 -- Organic Gemini signals.**

Google Business Profile completeness, Yelp presence (72.5% of AI Mode directory citation share), schema markup, and NAP consistency across directories remain valid infrastructure. Organic signals complement the Connected App layer -- they don't replace it. A business with perfect GBP and clean schema but no Angi or Thumbtack listing is positioned for organic Gemini citations but invisible in Gemini's home-project routing flow.

The gap between organic citation and Connected App routing is real. BrightLocal's 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey found that 45% of consumers now use AI tools to find local services -- up from 6% just one year prior. SOCi's 2026 Local Visibility Index, covering 350,000+ business locations, found that ChatGPT recommends only 1.2% of local businesses. Those recommendation slots go disproportionately to businesses in the structured data and Connected App layers, not to those with strong websites but missing platform presence.

The fix plan structure that follows from this: Foursquare and Yelp for ChatGPT and AI Mode, Thumbtack for all four platforms, Angi for ChatGPT and Gemini routing, GBP and schema as the underlying infrastructure. That ordering holds across the current state of AI platform integrations.

Signal Check at sourcepull.ca maps where your business stands across each of these platforms -- which data layers you're in, which gaps are responsible for low scores, and what the full citation picture looks like across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude. For home services businesses, the Thumbtack and Angi gaps now appear as Priority-1 findings on multiple platforms at once.
